Rabbi Steve Greenberg will present “Civil Law and Sacred Text,” the 2009 Samuel Schick Lecture, on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Tippie Alumni Center on the Allegheny College campus. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be followed at 8:30 p.m. by a screening and discussion of “And Thou Shalt Love,” a short documentary film about gay Orthodox Jews.

Allegheny College students Dalton Phillips and Christopher Voss will perform in a voice recital on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 3:15 p.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel on the Allegheny campus. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will feature duets and solos from opera and art song repertoire.

The Art Galleries at Allegheny College will present “Engineering Eden,” a national invitational exhibition featuring work by nine artists, from Tuesday, Nov. 3 to Tuesday, Dec. 1. An opening reception with talks by artists Justin Shull and Vesselina Traptcheva will be held on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. The galleries will be closed Nov. 25-29 for Allegheny’s Thanksgiving break. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is part of Allegheny’s Year of Social Change, a series of activities, workshops and events aimed at inspiring the campus and community to seek a more just and equitable world.

Allegheny College will take visitors on a journey to the center of the Milky Way galaxy, unveiling unprecedented mural-sized images of the galaxy’s core as seen by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Pelletier Library, located at the corner of North Main and East College Streets on the Allegheny campus.

Allegheny College’s Playshop Theatre will open its 80th season with Martin McDonagh’s thriller “The Pillowman” in the Gladys Mullenix Black Theatre at the Vukovich Center for Communication Arts. The play will be performed Nov. 5-8, with productions at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
