Students appreciate the deep friendships that they are able to develop during their time here. We also have a great rapport with the faculty of the university and really enjoy the way that professors take the opportunity to get to know the students on a personal level. It isn’t uncommon for professors to have students and or classes over to their homes for lunches, dinners, or desserts. Our professors care about the students well being and really like to be involved in their lives to help them learn the most they can during their experience at the University. The integration of faith and learning is core to our mission which is why we seek an education that expands beyond the classroom and into social and spiritual areas.

We have a tradition called the Bruin Brawl in which students attempt to get a stuffed Bruin (actually a leather sack resembling a bear) off of campus. It happens about once a month during the school year and was started in 1934. Each brawl begins with the Bruin Jr. being “revealed” to campus. The leather sack has been dropped from a helicopter, ridden in on a horse, thrown off a fire truck and made many other creative entries. During Homecoming each year we have the Polar Bear swim where up to a hundred students (and some staff) ceremoniously jump into a Tilikum lake in the middle of the winter. The tradition has been going since 1999. Serve Day happens in the fall with all students, staff and faculty taking a day off from classes to serve in our local community. The day of service has been happening since 1999.
