What Makes Us Unique

For more than 150 years, Michigan State has been advancing knowledge and transforming lives through teaching, research, and outreach. MSU's history of academic distinction has led to the development of a diverse community of students representing all 50 states and more than 125 different countries. Just minutes away from the capital city of Lansing, MSU is in close proximity to Chicago, Detroit, and the beaches of Lake Michigan. Many of Michigan State's 160 undergraduate majors are nationally ranked, and students easily find their niche on MSU's 5,200-acre Big Ten campus, quickly discovering the benefits of living in academic residential communities, and receiving personal guidance through individual advising available for all students starting in their freshman year. Offering an extensive merit scholarship program in addition to and need-based grants, loans and part-time jobs that can be combined in financial aid packages, Michigan State works hard to help students finance their education.
